General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) Saudi Arabia is only One Year away from 2020 KSA Census
According to the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT), Tuesday evening, March 17, 2020 marks the night time reference when the Fifth Census of population, housing and establishments in Saudi Arabia (KSA 2020 Census) commences. The survey will provide a wide range of statistical data to be used as a reliable source to run both studies and researches required by Saudi Arabia’s development plan and programs, and in line with Saudi Arabia’s 2030 Vision. As well, the Survey Data and statistical indicators will help measure the ongoing demographic change over time, facilitate domestic, regional and international comparisons, in addition to reviewing and evaluating future population estimates.
In this Census, GASTAT will adopt different techniques to ensure obtaining precise data through inter-database connection, the National Information Center and Saudi Post, according to the preparations taken by GASTAT and its partners to implement the “KSA 2020 Census”. This Census will be implemented differently given the new way adopted by integrating both data records into field data.
GASTAT spokesperson Mr. Taiseer M. Al-Mufarrej stated; "In preparation for the “KSA 2020 Census”, GASTAT has already updated the nomenclature manual across Saudi Arabia, in addition to updating postal addresses in some administrative regions as follows: Makkah, Madinah, Jazan, Najran, Al-Baha, Northern Borders, Tabuk, Hail and Qassim. In Shabaan, all postal addresses in Riyadh and Eastern Region will be updated”.
Al-Mufarrej also added, “The population, housing and establishments census form has been designed, some pre-launch tests have been conducted, manpower, training and publication executive plans are underway. This is the First Stage of KSA 2020 Census, followed by the Second Stage (the actual survey), then the Third Stage (Data Processing), and finally results announcement.”
It is worth noting that Saudi Arabia run the first official census in its comprehensive sense in 1934 A.H. (1974). The second census took place in 1413 A.H. (1992), while the third census was run in 1425 A.H. (2004). The 1431 A.H. Census (2010) is the fourth in the row of Censuses conducted by GASTAT, where (27,136,977) people were recorded.
