General Authority for Statistics: February 3rd the Beginning of "Building Numbering" Phase and 60 Days Separate Us from The Start of The "Actual Counting" Phase of The Saudi Census Project 2020



     The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) clarified on Thursday, January 16, 2020, that there are 60 days remaining until the actual counting “Night of Time Reference" of the project for the 5th census project of population, housing and facilities in Saudi Arabia "Saudi Census 2020" which will be on the evening of Tuesday, March 17, 2020 is the approved date for the time reference to all census activities, data and information, according to the approval of the honorable Higher Order. The next phase will witness the process of buildings, real estate units numbering, and inventorying families for 33 days starting on Monday, February 3, 2020, until Friday, March 6, 2020, That is followed by the start of the actual counting stage starting on Tuesday ,17 March 2020, until Monday, April 6, 2020, for 20 days.

     The General Statistics Authority provides self-counting, one of the modern technological means used in censuses, it means that families can do self-counting without the need of researchers visit and that they can complete the census form electronically. The Saudi Census 2020 aims to provide a broad base of statistical data to be used as a reliable basis for conducting studies and researches required by development programs and plans in the Kingdom, and to achieve 2030 vision, in addition to provide statistical data and indicators to measure the change in population characteristics over time, and to conduct local, regional and international comparisons. Reviewing, and assessing future population estimates.

      It is mentioned that the General Authority for Statistics has completed the stage of updating the population names manual in all regions of the kingdom, and updating the postal addresses in the administrative regions, as well as completing the design of the population, housing and establishments census form, and a number of pre-tests were conducted for them. The Authority is currently training the workforce involved in the 2020 Census of Population and Housing.

     During this census, the General Authority for Statistics will rely on different methods to ensure access to accurate information by linking databases to each other, in addition to the cooperation between the General Authority for Statistics, the National Information Center and the Saudi Post Foundation, in accordance with the preparations worked by the Authority and its partners to implement the "Saudi Census 2020", this census will be different from the previous censuses due to the change in the method of counting, by combining record data with field data.
