Saudi Census 2022 is the General Population and Housing Census 2022, through which data of population and housing of the Kingdom are collected, analyzed, and disseminated to drive better decision making by public, governmental entities, and private sector.
In 2017, the Saudi government mandated GASTAT by royal decree to carry out the next nationwide KSA census, intending to count every resident in KSA. This mandate established the census as a key pillar of the Vision 2030, providing the data and insights needed to drive better decision-making by governments entities and the private sector.
The Saudi census 2022 is the fifth census in the history of the Kingdom, and preparations for conducting the census began over a period of 3 years to be implemented in 2020. Unfortunately, and due to the pandemic of the new COVID-19, the virus has delayed the preparations for the census. Later on, with the return of the preparations for the census project the current plan is to conduct the "Saudi Census 2022" in the second quarter of 2022.
The significance of conducting population and housing census
Statistical data are the most important outputs of the census, and it is a key input that decision makers need to make informative decisions, based on reliable information, to assist in developing public services and various development programs, such as hospitals, schools, and urban planning for the population as it will also enable the private sector and investors to advance the development in the kingdom.
The Importance of the Saudi Census 2022
Statistical data is one of the most important outputs of the census, as it is the main reference upon which several key entities base their future plans.
- For Government Entities: Developing socio-economic policies, improving development plans for various sectors such as health and education sector, and developing urban plans for cities.
- For Individuals: Enabling people to make better decisions, such as identifying the demographics of neighborhood residents to choose the right neighborhood when buying a house or starting a business.
- For Universities and Research Centers: Carrying out development studies and research, making local, regional and international benchmarks and developing future population estimates.
- For Private Sector and Investors: Understanding the demographics of various target groups, to facilitate access to them.
The integration of administrative records with the census outputs
Significance of conducting census relies on the integration of the collected data through census and the available administrative records at the different government bodies, as the census questionnaire complements the available data with details related to health, education level and other housing information for each household member
There are three different types of data that are relied upon in providing statistical data, which are, the available administrative records available at the different government bodies, big data, and survey data. The combination of all these types is the modern method of producing statistical data.
The census targets all Saudi citizens living inside the Kingdom including citizens living temporarily outside the kingdom (for less than 12 months) for medical treatments, tourism, or studying purposes …etc., to be enumerated by the head of their household living inside the kingdom. It also targets permanent residents inside Saudi Arabia despite the documentation status. Visitors for Hajj, Umrah or tourism are excluded from the Census.
